ABOUT THE AUTHOR
LEWIS CARROLL
Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832–1898), an English writer, mathematician, and logician best known for his beloved children’s classics Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871). A lecturer in mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford, Dodgson combined a love of logic and wordplay with a whimsical imagination, creating works that delighted both children and adults with their clever puzzles, nonsense verse, and dreamlike absurdity.
Beyond literature, Carroll was also a skilled photographer and essayist, with interests in philosophy, mathematics, and symbolic logic. His Alice books revolutionized children’s literature by rejecting moral lessons in favor of pure imagination, inspiring countless adaptations and interpretations. Though a reserved and complex figure, Carroll’s legacy endures as one of the most inventive and influential voices in English storytelling.
