“The Divine Sister” by Charles Busch

From Charles Busch, playwright of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and Psycho Beach Party, The Divine Sister is an outrageous comic homage to nearly every Hollywood film involving nuns! St. Veronica’s indomitable Mother Superior is determined to build a new school for her Pittsburgh convent. Along the way, there is a young postulant experiencing “visions,” sexual hysteria among the sisters, a sensitive schoolboy in need of mentoring, a mysterious nun from the Mother House in Berlin, and a former suitor intent on luring her away from her vows.

ROLES

This is a Charles Busch show— the following 6 roles can be portrayed in drag by actors of any age (16+), race, or gender

AGNES - an ethereal young postulant.

SISTER WALBURGA/MRS. MACDUFFIE - Sister Walburga is a severe doctrinarian from the mother house in Berlin. Mrs. MacDuffie is an old Scottish Charwoman.

SISTER ACACIUS - a hearty, athletic nun who speaks with a pronounced New Yawk accent.

MOTHER SUPERIOR - She glows with serene lovliness and yet is infused with boundless energy and toughness of spirit.

MRS. LEVINSON/TIMOTHY - Mrs. Levinson is an imposing and elegant matriarch. Timothy is a sensitive twelve-year-old student.

JEREMY/BROTHER VENERIUS - Jeremy is a handsome, virile man in his forties. Brother Venerius is a sinister Albino monk.
