TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

WSSR is hiring a Technical Director for our 2023-24 season.

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Technical Director to oversee set construction and light installation for our next season. The Technical Director will work closely with the director and designers to bring the artistic vision to life, ensuring that all technical elements are executed safely and efficiently by the production crew.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with the director and designers to understand and implement their designs.

  2. Oversee and coordinate the construction, mounting, and rigging of scenic elements.

  3. Develop the production schedule and ensure all technical milestones are met.

  4. Supervise and manage the technical crew, including set, lights and sound crew members.

  5. Ensure that all technical equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment, is maintained and in good working order.

  6. Manage the technical budget, ensuring effective use of resources.

  7. Implement safety protocols and ensure that all crew members adhere to them.

  8. Solve technical problems that arise during rehearsals and performances.

  9. Attend technical rehearsals and collaborate with the Stage Manager to integrate technical elements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience as a Technical Director is preferred but not required.

  2. Understanding of, or willingness to learn, the technical elements of theater: set construction, lighting, sound, and rigging.

  3. Experience with carpentry, painting, renovation, or maintenance a plus.

  4. Experience with scheduling and project management a plus.

  5. Excellent leadership and problem solving abilities.

  6. Ability to read and interpret design sketches and drafts.

  7. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.

PAY: $1000 stipend/season
